Suction evacuation of molar pregnancy

Suspected complete or partial mole.

Source: RCOG GTG 38

Steps

  1. Theatre with a senior; cross-match.
  2. Cervical preparation is safe.
  3. Suction evacuation whatever the uterine size; ultrasound guidance.
  4. Avoid oxytocin until evacuation is complete (unless life-threatening bleeding).
  5. All tissue to histology; anti-D if Rh-negative.
  6. Register with the trophoblastic screening centre for hCG follow-up.
Avoid medical evacuation for complete mole. Routine second evacuation is not needed.
